Addiction To Video Games

Video game addiction is real and growing and is without a doubt, becoming this century's most increasingly worrisome epidemic, even when compared to drugs and alcohol abuse. The video game addicts come in all shape and sizes, yet all display the same addictive personalities.

Video game addiction usually starts from someone using video games as an escape mechanism to avoid there real problems and then it becomes a crutch they are dependent on, and is pearly psychological. But is it a brain disease? Some say that addiction is really just a choice and there is no real treatment. But either way you see it, the fact remains almost one out of every ten youth gamers are video game addicts It is easy to see how addiction starts though, they can be anything other then themselves, just like a drug or alcohol user. Until we finally get to the end of the endless debate on video game addiction nothing is going to solve this problem soon.

Video game addicts are often described by clinicians in the field as displaying many symptoms characteristic of other addictions. With them showing enough symptoms of damage to their school, family, and psychological functions it merit serious concern. The addicts are sometime nerds that have social problems that cause them to seek out a new life. Keep in mind though that addicts in general just want a new life and to forget about their current one, so ANYONE can become one. Interesting thing about gamer addicts is they are more likely to have game consoles in their bedroom and spend an average of 24 our or more a week playing games. Some say being addicted does not make them bad people, and it is not something to be punished for. In reality addicts are punishing them selves by becoming anti-social to the real world. As with all addiction they usually joke about it amongst themselves in their circle of users.

In the end video game addiction will be debated for years to come as with all addictions. As for the addicts there are treatment programs, but as with all treatment they'll have to seek it out. I'll leave it with this question, if gamblers can get help from the casinos and gambling game makers, do video game companies have any obligation to the gamers well being?
